If you don't like the weather in Maine...

Just wait a minute!
That is what we learned today!
Today we had a FANTASTIC photo session with Jason, Chelsea, Ivan and Ivan (her their son, and Chelsea's father)
It started out raining and cloudy and wet and dreary - not super family photo weather. There is so much to tell about this great day - but I want to have something to talk about when I post the actual post - not just the first look.
Let's just say we were lucky in so many ways today - and it doesn't help to have connections!
It was so great to meet you all today - The full blog will be coming soon!

First Look - Ross & Rhonda

What a nice surprise!
We were contacted early last week to photograph this wedding, from the Bride's sister and brother in law who Brandi and I work with. Turns out, when we get to the wedding and meet everyone the Bride and Groom live next to Brandi's parents! Small World!
This was such a nice wedding in such a beautiful location - it was right on Embden Pond outside of Madison. We had such a great time with the Bride and Groom and their family!
Stay tuned for the full blog post!

Engagement Photo Session - Mike & Jen

I am so excited to finally be able to post this!!
This was such a great engagement shoot - I love photographing engagements!
Brandi and I are photographing Mike and Jen's wedding in October and it is going to be fantastic, I know already, the locations are great, the couple is great, its going to be great -
I have wanted to photograph in this location for a long time - Hobbit Land - Also known as the Vaughn Woods in Hallowell. It was such a beautiful location! It couldn't have been a better day either!
They are just so cute together!

HELLOOOOOOOOOOOOOO How can you resist a giant stone bridge...? Beautiful or what?

Can't be an engagement session without the ring shot!

Again, beautiful bridge, beautiful couple.

LOVE LOVE LOVED this field, who wouldn't?

OK, you may remember my story about the pink umbrella. I bought this for a wedding in February - turned out the bride HATED pink, so I didn't get to use the umbrella. I have been dying to use it ever since then and just didn't have the right opportunity. Mike and Jen were SOOOO great, they were up for anything I threw at them.
They had their doubts too apparently - I have to share the comment Mike left me after I posted the first look: "I've got to admit...in the moment we where both like WTF about the pink umbrella...but we did it trusting you our photographer...looking at it now against the greens it really POPS and actually looks pretty good...Good 1st post choice. Eagerly awaiting!"

ANOTHER thing I have been DYING to try with a couple - bubbles. I think its just the best combination of cute and romantic, LOVE IT!

Black and White bubbles :)

Can you feel the love tonight?

Not only were they up for a trek through Hobbit Land (Jen even had heels on!) we also walked up and down the streets of downtown Hallowell.
We got heckled while taking this shot - they just kept on going!

Mike had Jen laughing throughout the entire shoot. I couldn't resist the yellow wall.

ORRRRRRRRRRR the brick wall!

ORRRRRRRRRRRRR the brick wall in the alley.

I ABSOLUTELY LOVE her smile! Who wouldn't?

Did I mention it was a perfect day?

Almost the end - I know I posted a lot of pictures, but it was just that great of a shoot.
I have to give special thanks to my great assistant and second shooter for this shoot. Our friend Kari Cross, a great photographer, assisted me with this shoot because Brandi couldn't join me. She was fantastic!

I am ending with this - I haven't done many of these, but this was just too good to pass up!

I hope you enjoyed these, cause I had a wonderful time at this shoot! I wish Jen and Mike the best of luck with the rest of their wedding planning, and I can not wait until October!!

I DID IT!!!!!!!!!!!

First off - HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY TO ALL!!
Now onto the topic of the blog - I graduated from Husson University on Saturday with my MBA. I am so glad to be done. The ceremony was great - it was an excellent end to a chapter in my life. No longer am I going to have to rush from Belfast to Bangor one or two nights a week for class, that will be a nice break for a while.
I also know I haven't blogged or posted a studio photo shoot for a while. So what a better occasion to get into the studio - try on the cap and gown again and take some photos of myself.
I was trying a different technique today, which was inspired by one of my guilty pleasure television shows: Make Me a Supermodel
Now, I am NOT a supermodel - but whenever I watch the show I would like to be the photographers that get to photograph the supermodels - I could care less about the runway part...who cares about walking...pfft...
Anyway - on the last episode of Make Me a Supermodel the models were photographed against dark backgrounds with a rim light - basically a light shined behind them so they stood out from the background. I think I was pretty successful in my attempt.

The next thing I need to figure out is how to make my black background look black, not purple. Either way I think it works.

I have to share - I was expecting Saturday to be a little on the chilly side - and when I got to campus at 8:45 in the morning, it was chilly so I put on the sweater I brought just in case. That was a BAD decision, by the time we took the field it was probably close to 60, and then by high noon, I think we were into the 70's and I, in a black polyester robe, was sweltering. Next time I need to NOT listen to myself and suck it up!

I couldn't help but compare this graduation against my UMaine graduation. UMaine was all about efficiency, and when you are graduating probably close to 1000 students efficiency counts, there isn't a lot of time for Pomp and Circumstance. At Husson though, there was a lot of Pomp and Circumstance. The ceremony was complete with the marching baton and a Bagpipe band. Very nice.

A funny thing about the ceremony, the three photographers, myself, Brandi and my mom, all forgot our cameras, which is why I was inspired to dress up today and take some photos. Oh well, I will have the gown forever and the memories too.

I hope you enjoyed me sharing these photos with you, and also you enjoyed my new technique I am trying out. If you are a supermodel give me a call - my readers may enjoy looking at the pictures of you, rather then me!!

Life is not a race, but indeed a journey. Be honest. Work hard. Be choosy. Say 'Thank you', 'I love you', and 'Great job' to someone each day. Let your handshake mean more than pen and paper. Dreaming does matter. It allows you to become that which you aspire to. Appreciate the little things in life and enjoy them. Some of the best things really are free. Take time for yourself - plan for longivity.
